If schools need any advice or assistance in setting up and rolling out the programme, the author can support in the following ways.

By:

* Discussing Negotiate with appropriate staff, heads, Principals, PHSE, Citizenship, Year Leaders, Healthy Schools Coordinator. This can be by telephone or in person. (If in your school, travel and overnight costs apply if appropriate)

* Presenting to whole staff groups at a teacher or half teacher day.

* Presenting Negotiate to a Year group or PHSE / Citizenship staff.

* Additionally undertaking demonstration sessions with students in their classrooms.
This can be observed by other staff and is an ideal way to launch Negotiate well.

Negotiate and SEAL

Social Emotional and behavioural skills influence practically all aspects of personal, school, home and community life. Such skills are inextricably linked to effective learning and performance. As such they are fundamental to school improvement.

When students have these skills they are better equipped to become effective learners:

· To be able to make and maintain friendships.

· To be able to resolve disagreement effectively and fairly.

· To be able to solve problems with others or by themselves.

· To be able to deal with strong feelings such as anger, frustration or anxiety.

· To plan and work co-operatively with others.

· To recognise and stand up for the rights of others.

· To understand and value both the differences and the common things between people.

· To respect the rights of others to beliefs and values different from their own.

All of these can be effectively developed through Negotiate.
